Healing with Our Ancestors: A Traditional Yoruba Practice with Enroue Onígbọ̀nná Halfkenny
About the Session
Your Ancestors, those of your blood and bone (and those who parented you or raised you, regardless of biology), fundamentally love and support you and want you to be well and successful in this life. Period.
Though this is true, we seldom engage in a relationship with them to receive this support.
As a Bablawo within the Yoruba Orisa tradition and Clinical Social Worker, Enroue Onigbonna Halfkenny will share and teach the practice of Ancestor worship to engage in the beauty and complexity of this relationship. We will touch upon the journey of these practices from Yorubaland to the African diaspora and around the world as well as some overarching frameworks of the religion. Enroue will also share aspects of his own wellness and spiritual journey as a Black multi-racial person who became an Orisa devotee and a Priest of Ifa. We all have Ancestors and can be in relationship with them based on our needs, hurts, joys, desires, purposes, gifts, hopes and yearnings. There will be opportunities to connect with each other and to ask him specific questions.

Original Medicine 4-Part Series is a platform for Indigenous elders, teachers, and healers from all four corners of the world to come and share their wisdom. This series seeks to illuminate the often overlooked and unheard voices of Indigenous people. These sessions offer a psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and mindfulness approach that weaves Indigenous Wisdom, Buddha-Dharma, and Earth-based practices. We work with each Season as a teacher, featuring a different guest speaker every Season, so that we may be in an intentional practice of connecting ourselves with the natural world.
